Established in 2010 as a raw material extraction facility to provide certainty of supply and standardization of extract raw materials, both for internal and external needs, as well as for supply chain efficiency from the spice farmers’ crops to the final product.
PT Semarang Herbal Indoplant (SHI) is a raw material extraction plant to provide internal and external needs. By using Germany machines and technology with international standards, SHI can produce quality extracts as raw materials so that Sido Muncul’s products have better quality standards. This is also supported by CPOTB certification from BPOM, and Certificates of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 22000:2018.
In 2023 SHI plans to upgrade ISO 22000 and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certificates to Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 which has more stringent requirements, and has a Halal Assurance System from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), to able to compete in the global market.
In 2015, SHI expanded its physical building to 12,795 sqm to add new extraction line facility called Line 2.
With the addition of Line 2 facility, SHI extract production capacity has tripled or reached 1,000 tons per year. With this production capacity, SHI is ready to ensure the availability of extraction materials, both for own needs and for the needs of the domestic and international markets.
Line 1 and Line 2 extraction facilities consist of dynamic extraction machines, low temperature vacuum equipment, sterilization units with Ultra High Temperature (UHT) systems, Liquid Extract purification units through liquid extraction, vacuum belt dryers, and vacuum dry chambers.
SHI’s two extraction lines are capable to extract parts of plants such as leaves, flowers, bark, roots, seeds, or fruits that are beneficial to health. These extract products are used as raw materials for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetic products.
In 2022, SHI added 2 new production units, namely bioethanol and essential oil units. The bioethanol unit produces food grade ethyl alcohol with a 96% content from the raw material of molasses. Ethyl alcohol is used to meet internal needs. The bioethanol unit has a production capacity of 7,000 liters per day or 2,200,000 liters per year. This ethyl alcohol production machine has been designed to efficient electricity consumption and is operated automatically with Programmable Logic Control (PLC) system. The distillation process can be monitored through displays on the Human Machine Interface (HMI) screen so that operation and control does not require a lot of manpower (operators).
While the essential oil unit has a production capacity of 600 tons per year to meet local and export market demand, such as to the United States and Europe.
Essential oils are products of secondary metabolites obtained from the distillation of plant parts such as stems, leaves, flowers, bark, fruit, and roots. Essential oil products produced include patchouli oil, ginger oil, citronella oil, nutmeg oil, turmeric oil, kaffir lime oil, and many more. Essential oils are widely used as flavorings and fragrances in the flavor fragrance, food and beverage, cosmetic and personal care and homecare industries.
Essential oil products can be accepted both in the domestic and international markets because it has a distillation machine, fractionation and mixing tank with a capacity of 12,000 liters and international standard equipment. With a target of 90% to export market, it is hoped that the essential oil unit can be a breath of fresh air to penetrate the global market.
